Hello, this is Chi-san.
I would like to introduce episodes and dishes related to your [Words from parents].
Chapter 3:
Chicken and tomato stew
A simple yet cherished dish that A san often enjoyed, made with love by their mom.
Please savor the delicious memories!
【A san】
What my grandparent told me that still sticks in my heart is,
“If you leave even a single grain of rice, I won’t forgive you.”
Although it wasn’t from my parents, this advice came from my grandfather when I was in second grade, and it continues to be a lesson for me.
I’ve been working with food since my college days, and I still do today. I really love eating. But you know, back in the day, I wasn’t so into food, and I used to really dislike meal times.
I spent my elementary school days at my grandparents’ house, and every day I left food on my plate. One morning, my grandfather scolded me with the words mentioned earlier.
He said, “There are many people in the world who can’t eat, and some children even pass away due to hunger. How can you not appreciate how fortunate you are to have a meal!” I cried a lot and went to school.
Since then, I’ve been determined not to leave even a little bit of food uneaten.
【Grandfather】
It’s been three years since my grandfather passed away. Even now, I feel like he might be watching to see if I’m not leaving foods behind.
Due to certain circumstances, I spent a lot of my time at my grandparents’ house until elementary school, and I only spent one day a week with my mother.
On those days, my mother used to often make chicken and tomato stew. It’s a simple dish, but I can’t forget the taste of this memorable meal.
I encourage all of you to give it a try and make it for yourselves.
Ingredients
- Garlic: 5 cloves
- Onions: 2 medium-sized
- Olive oil: 3 tablespoons
- Chicken wings: 1 kg
- Canned tomatoes: 400g
- Consommé cube: 1
- Soy sauce: to taste
- Salt: to taste
- Black pepper: to taste
Recipe
①Peel and thinly slice the garlic and onions.
②Heat olive oil in a pot, add the garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
③Arrange the chicken wings in the pot and cook on medium heat until both sides have a light sear.
④Add the onions, cover with a lid, and wait for 2 minutes.
⑤Add the tomatoes and consommé, cover with a lid, and simmer for 5 minutes.
⑥Stir slowly, cover again, and simmer for an additional 15 minutes.
⑦Finally, adjust the taste with soy sauce, salt, and black pepper.
Point
・To prevent onions from burning, deliberately keep them in a steaming state without browning.
If it seems like there isn’t enough liquid, feel free to add some water!
